Hi Erin!

Thank you for always looking for solutions.
However, from my perspective (thinking as AMSBrasil) and Helenice agrees with this view, it would be better for her to take the philosophy course, since it is a 23-hour course.

Even if we added the 8 hours of observation to the hours of the ECC course, she still would not reach the same number of hours that other teachers in Latin America do.
Philosophy course is very deep, it has a lot of discussions and depth that the ECC doesn’t have, and it takes into account many specificities of our realities. She would benefit greatly from taking this course.

Of course, it´s important to listen to Flor´s opinion, but I believe we share some similar ideas.

Our purpose: if she can’t take the philosophy course before the piano course starts, could she take the course right after, for example, in August? And until she finishes her philosophy course, the piano course remains unregistered. It would be a commitment on her part to do this course as soon as possible.

A hug,
Araceli

Hi Araceli,

We have had a similar situation arise before, and we found it acceptable to have the teacher do 8 hours of additional observations to complete the Unit 1 course, instead of also requiring Filosofia. Would that work for you in this case?

Hi Erin!

I am writing on behalf of AMSBrasil because as we have been working in partnership to approve courses, I see the need to exchange ideas together about a situation that arose, with a participant who is enrolling in the piano course book 1, which will take place now in July, with TT Flor Canelo, at the Klavier Musical Education School (Helenice is the organizer).

This teacher, Rúbia Victoria Silva Ferreira, took the “Every Child Can” course in 2009 with TT Shinobu. And at that time, she didn’t take the book 1 course, just the ECC course. And now she is motivated to resume her training and officially become a Suzuki teacher.

However, she was not aware that the prerequisites had changed since the time she took the ECC. At that time (2009), it was possible to take Book 1 in Latin America right after the ECC. For her, the same rule was still valid.

Now comes the question:
Rúbia is already enrolled in the Book 1 Piano course with us this July, with an approved audition. But according to the SAA guidelines, she does not meet the prerequisites to take the course at this time.
So we would like to propose some alternatives, already discussed with Flor Canelo, who agrees.

1) Flor agreed to accept her on the course, as long as she committed to taking the Philosophy course afterwards.
2) We are also working on the possibility of her taking the Philosophy course before the piano course, but we don’t know if there will be any courses available with a vacancy.

In light of this situation, we would really appreciate your guidance on how to proceed. Is there anything you could recommend?  Could SAA accept the first alternative if there is no philosophy course on time? We know that there will be one in August, with Fábio dos Santos.

Thank you very much for your attention and support. We want to ensure that everything is in line with SAA standards and that we can support Rúbia’s return to the Suzuki community in the best way possible.

All the best,
Araceli
