Request of permission to present an Introduction to the SUZUKI™ Accordion Project.
Dear Pam Brasch,
in 2012 the Italian Suzuki Institute is granted permission by European Suzuki Association to use the Suzuki name in conjunction with the experimentation on the Suzuki Accordion Project (SAP) conducted by Elena Enrico.
Since then, 8 years ago, the committee made up of expert Suzuki teachers, teachers and musicians of international renown, has responded to all requests made by ESA and then by ISA regarding the Policies for New Instrument Areas in the Suzuki Method™.
The last step was requested by ISA on 02/12/2018:
“At the ISA Board meeting in New York City in October the following motion was passed: Motion # 4 – moved that the Accordion study group submits core materials for Book 1 for review by the Board.”
The committee sent Book 1, revised and corrected based on the experience of dozens of teachers in Europe and also in Brazil and Chile who in the meantime experiment with this material.
This led us after 7 years to phase 5 of the Policies for New Instrument Areas in the Suzuki Method™, the last one.
At the moment the committee is awaiting new communications.
In the meantime, over the years many children and families have approached the accordion; many expert teachers of the academic world, also teachers in Conservatory in Italy and abroad, have been able to appreciate the validity of the program, some of these could never have imagined being able to reach such beautiful fruits with such young children.
Introductions to SAP have been presented by Elena Enrico in Italy to many invited teachers, amongst whom were Miguel Santos (Brazil) and Dardo Nardelli (Chile).
The growing interest in the project led to the intention of organizing a similar event in Brazil supported by a brazilian school “Flute and Fole” and Associação Musical Suzuki do Brasil.
The Introduction to the Suzuki Accordion Project will be conducted online, given the “covid situation”, in two sessions, as an introduction to Elena’s teaching ideas and student accomplishments.
Since Accordion is not yet an approved SUZUKI ™ Instrument, the introduction to SAP will not be a course which involves training and certification, but a presentation and sharing of project developments and results.
We hope that this event will be an enrichment for the attendees and that it will receive recognition and approval of SAA.
We also hope that this step will represent a further contribution to the definitive approval of the Suzuki Accordion.
We are available for any other information or clarification.
Thank you for giving us some of your time.
Kindest regards
Elena Enrico, SAP Project Leader,
founding member and former president of Italian Suzuki Institute
Marco Messina, SAP Project Manager,
Suzuki flute Instructor, ESA country director for Italy
